In Memory - Little Boy

Little Boy is like your dad’s friend nicknamed, “Tiny”, you just know he is going to be a big guy. Little Boy is all affection, all shepherd, coming in at about 115 pounds. The past few months have been difficult for Little Boy. First, one of his owner’s passed away. Then his mom, who he lived with all his life passed away. Finally, his current owner had numerous health issues that made it difficult for her to properly care for Little Boy, so he ended up at Salem County Shelter.

His luck changed when the shelter reached out to Sedona Shepherd. We brought Little Boy into our program and now he is looking for his Forever Friends Home. Little Boy loves to play with his soccer ball and go for walks. He has bonded quickly with all of our volunteers and is happy to meet new people. After a few weeks, we began to notice a wobble in Little Boy’s walk. Additionally, the nails on his left paw are worn down. After completing a physical, it has been determined that Little Boy has DM.

We do not know how quickly it may progress. Many shepherds will start to show signs and then level off and have a good two plus years. Other German Shepherds see the progression go quicker. Little Boy has a lot of energy, loves to play and chase a soccer ball or go for a walk. He is a trooper, he allows us to handle him in any manner and has been a trooper at the vet office.

At about 8.5 years old, Little Boy is still a relatively young dog. He lived with a female GSD all his life and also spent time with one of our senior GSDs in a home environment. He could fit in a home with a mellow female GSD or on his own. In 2022, Sedona Shepherd started their Forever Friends Program. With this program, Sedona provides all the medical care and a foster provides the home. Little Boy is in our Forever Friends Program with a nice mellow female German Shepherd.

You can help us by sponsoring Little Boy during his stay in our Forever Friends Program. And check out some Little Boy action, filmed Feb 8, 2022.
