Please tell us a little bit about yourself:

Fundraising
*
As a non-profit organization all of our income is derived from donations. There are many aspects to fundraising, some dealing with the public and others behind the scenes. We hold fundraising activities and participate in animal rescue events and fairs. We apply for grants and seek ways to receive donations from our supporters.

Technology
*
Today rescues that are able to master technology have a distinct edge in successfully and quickly getting dogs adopted. If you have expertise in web design, photography, social media, or mobile applications, you can make a huge impact in helping rescue dogs. Technology is the lifeblood of reaching potential adopters today and we need volunteers skilled in this area.

Application Interviews & References
*
All prospective adopters must provide a vet reference. We often do a phone interview prior to a home visit and on occasion we may call a reference provided by the applicant.

Home Visits
*
A home visit is needed to inspect where the dog will be kept and how it will be integrated into the family. This involves travel to the home, which can possibly incur gas and toll costs. You must also be good at interacting with people and have an objective attitude.

Shelter Evaluations
*
It is often necessary to visit animal shelters to evaluate dogs in need of a home. This requires travel to/from the shelter, which can possibly incur gas and toll costs. Evaluations require interaction with the dog to assess temperament, approachability, and how the dog responds to commands, etc. In order to be a lead temperament test evaluator, the President must approve the volunteer. You must be comfortable handling dogs from unknown origins as most dogs come in as strays. It is also important to understand that Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary may fail a dog for temperament issues or may not have an open foster home at the time of the evaluation. Volunteers must be comfortable accepting that not all dogs will be eligible to be part of our program.

Transporting Dogs
*
Most of the dogs adopted through our organization will need to be transported to their new home or to a foster home. This will require travel to/from the transport locations, which can possibly incur gas and toll costs. It also requires putting a strange dog in your vehicle, so a crate or confined area is required. Sometimes the dog will experience motion sickness or other events that could make a mess in your vehicle.

Marketing
*
Marketing encompasses many aspects, including working with social media, interacting with local and national media (newspapers, radio stations) and other forms of advertisements, including mailings and newsletters. This is a great opportunity for those that have strong people skills, writing skills, or marketing and research knowledge.

Fostering
Often, dogs in imminent danger need to be pulled from shelters or abusive situations before an appropriate adopter can be found. When this happens we rely on volunteers to provide a temporary home for these dogs. The foster home application is similar to the adoption application.
