Max is quite the energetic shepherd. This smallish shepherd’s owner was hospitalized and Max found his way to the shelter East Orange severely underweight and a little shaggy. Initially shy when he arrived, today Max loves to play and hang out with the volunteers at the shelter.

Max is about 4 years old. He can spend all day chasing a tennis ball or other toy around the shelter’s yard. When the leash comes on, he is ready to go exploring on a long walk. Max appears to be good with well mannered dogs and the shelter has had him on walks with other dogs. He does seem to have a high prey drive, so we doubt a cat would be in his future.

He is currently at East Orange Animal Shelter while he waits for a spot to open up at Sedona Shepherd. Given his time on the street, Max is a super fast eater. While he tolerates people near his bowl, he will eat even quicker. When playing Max can get over excited and takes a toy or treat quickly, so he needs some training to get used to taking a ball gently. Max picks up on commands quickly, and as would be expected from the breed is a fast learner. We believe he might have a little collie in him.

At this time you can adopt Max directly from the shelter, or if you are interested in fostering Max, he is eligible for our foster program. This program also allows you to adopt Max. For more information reach out to East Orange Animal Alliance. If you would like to foster Max for us, please fill out our foster application.
