Petey is a very handsome and affectionate three-legged 5-year-old male neutered pit bull, with a heart of gold! His story is upsetting because it is hard to imagine that this sweet boy, who adores human company and is so eager to please, has been confined to a kennel for the past 4 years.

Petey was found as a stray by animal control as a young dog. Petey was emaciated, with a hind leg that was so severely injured that it required amputation. Thanks to the vet hospital that brought him in, he was spared euthanasia and received the necessary care. Despite this, his journey to find a loving home hit roadblocks; he next went to a boarding facility without much exposure to potential adopters, and Petey remained unclaimed. With the closure of this facility, Petey faces an uncertain future once again. The stress of confinement is taking a toll—he gets so excited to go on his walks, but returning to his kennel is hard for him.

While Petey is fantastic with adults, he would thrive in a pet-free environment without young children. He craves an active owner who enjoys walks and can dedicate time to his continued training. Thanks to recent training from
Canine Dimensions, Petey has learned how to walk nicely on a leash and be attentive to his handler. He even whines sometimes wanting to meet new dogs. While he is ok in short meetings, he is best suited to be an only dog in his household. Petey is up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, dewormed, neutered, and microchipped.

As you can tell from his pictures, Petey's eyes are so expressive; and communicates his deep longing for a place to call his own—a fenced in yard to frolic in and someone to shower him with love! It's awe-inspiring how, despite all the hardship he has been through, he is still so trusting and sweet.

Sedona Shepherd is pleased to be working with Petey’s owner to find him his forever home. If you are interested in adopting Petey, shoot us an email at contact@sedonashepherd.com or fill out an online application.
